Politics on Bainbridge Island, WA asks "What are the people thinking? What do the people want?" Bainbridge Island has a City Manager form of government. It is governed by a 7-Member City Council elected by its 25,000 residents. As typical, very few constituents are actively involved. When an issue is on the table, better organized groups can dominate the conversation and outcome. It is easy for Council Members to state "people say..." and there is no backup. No real proof this is really what people want. So how do you do that?
Pretty simple, actually. Through broad-based surveys one can quickly get statistically valid opinions within days. Better decisions can be made. And because of transparency, people can trust the result. It gets very close to a true democratic position rather than a time-consuming and expensive. comprehensive referendum.
Thus, SURVEY BAINBRIDGE™ was born with an initial DataBase of about 4,000 residents.
